Summit Soliloquies, Day 5: Michael Mitnick

By John Moore

Today, we continue “Summit Soliloquies,” a week-long video series leading up to the 2014 Colorado New Play Summit. Here, playwrights past and present talk to you about writing, the Denver Center, the Summit and more.

Part 5: Michael Mitnick, whose “Ed, Downloaded” was read at the 2012 Summit and fully produced the next year. “It’s the kind of work that would scare off most theatres,” Mitnick tells us. Among many other projects, Mitnick is writing the libretto for the upcoming “Animal House” Broadway musical.

Video: Watch Helen Thorpe and Karen Zacarías talk about “Just Like Us” at Page To Stage

By John Moore

This short video offers highlights from my talk with playwright Karen Zacarías and author Helen Thorpe at the Tattered Cover Book Store about the Denver Center Theatre Company’s upcoming world premiere of “Just Like Us.” Video shot by Ken Mostek.

The free monthly panel is called “DCTC at the TC,” and next up are Mike Hartman and Anthony Powell talking about “Death of a Salesman” at noon on Oct. 8 at the LoDo store, located at the 16th Street Mall and Wynkoop Street.

"Just Like Us" is a Denver Center Theatre Company commission adapted by Zacarias from the acclaimed book by Thorpe. It’s the Denver-based story of four high-school students divided by their immigration status. It opens Oct. 10 in the Stage Theatre.
