First look: Matt Zambrano’s fun ‘SantaLand Diaries’ TV commercial

Here’s your first look at a fun new TV spot for “The SantaLand Diaries.” It was conceived by Denver Center graphic Designer Kyle Malone, whose animation required about 150 individual Photoshop layers, with an assist from videographer Ken Mostek.

Local favorite Matt Zambrano dons the candy-cane tights in
"The SantaLand Diaries," bringing to life David Sedaris’ semi-true story working as an elf in a Macy’s SantaLand display. It opens Nov. 29 in the Garner-Galleria Theatre as a co-production with the Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company. Call 303-839-4100 or visit

Video: The making of the amazing “Jackie & Me” stage floor

By John Moore

You may recall a previous photo blog where I called the stage floor for the upcoming “Jackie & Me” “the coolest stage floor … maybe ever.” The entire stage is made up of hand-painted baseball cards from across the generations. Now our videographer Ken Mostek has come up with an equally cool video on the making of that cool floor. Set design by Lisa Orzolek. Please enjoy, and if you like it — pass it around. The play, by Denver’s own Steven Dietz, opens for previews Nov. 15. Call 303-893-4100 or go to the Denver Center’s ticketing page.

Video: Watch Helen Thorpe and Karen Zacarías talk about “Just Like Us” at Page To Stage

By John Moore

This short video offers highlights from my talk with playwright Karen Zacarías and author Helen Thorpe at the Tattered Cover Book Store about the Denver Center Theatre Company’s upcoming world premiere of “Just Like Us.” Video shot by Ken Mostek.
The free monthly panel is called “DCTC at the TC,” and next up are Mike Hartman and Anthony Powell talking about “Death of a Salesman” at noon on Oct. 8 at the LoDo store, located at the 16th Street Mall and Wynkoop Street.
"Just Like Us" is a Denver Center Theatre Company commission adapted by Zacarias from the acclaimed book by Thorpe. It’s the Denver-based story of four high-school students divided by their immigration status. It opens Oct. 10 in the Stage Theatre.
